CFTC Website Launches News Portal for Whistleblower Program

The CFTC Whistleblower program today announced the launch of a news portal, event schedule, and FAQ for its whistleblower program on its website

This new portal will contain industry news, CFTC Events and a FAQ covering the Whistleblower program and information on submitting a whistleblower tip and claiming awards based on accurate tips. The CFTC hopes this newly created section of its site will provide higher quality tips that lead to larger sanctions and more awards being paid out to tipsters.

Some of the tips for Whistleblowers suggested by the CFTC

1. The more specific the information is, the easier it is for the Commission to follow the lead in opening an investigation or pursuing a new line of inquiry.

2. The more credible the information is, the more likely it is that the Commission will pursue it.

3. The more timely the information, the better able the Commission is to discover any misconduct and put a stop to it before further damage can be done to markets and innocent investors. If you delay in submitting your information, other sources may cause the Commission to open an examination or investigation, making you ineligible for an award, or reducing any award if you are found to have unreasonably delayed in reporting your information to the Commission.”

One of the most recent pieces of news posted by the CFTC is that following extensive review they will be improving rules guiding protections for whistleblowers and the award claim process.

James McDonald, the director of the CFTC’s division of enforcement said:

“The Whistleblower Program is an integral part of the Division’s efforts to identify and prosecute unlawful conduct. The Commission’s approval of these rules today will further strengthen and enhance our efforts to protect customers and promote market integrity.”

All CFTC events and staff appearances will be listed on the portal and will provide interested parties with a convenient way to locate the next event where CFTC staff will be speaking or presenting. Such as the upcoming 13th Annual FIA Asia Derivatives Conference in Singapore (November 28-30, 2017)
